What Are Nepali Numbers (Devanagari Numerals)?
Nepali numbers use the Devanagari numeral system - a set of 10 unique digit symbols (०, १, २, ३, ४, ५, ६, ७, ८, ९) that look different from Western Arabic numerals (0-9). These numerals are used throughout Nepal on currency, official documents, road signs, and in schools.
Each number also has a spoken Nepali word - for example, ५ is पाँच(Panch), meaning “five”. Learning both the numeral shape and the Nepali word is essential for dual-language fluency. Below you'll find all 100 numbers with their Devanagari numerals, Nepali words, and English equivalents.

How to Learn Nepali Numbers - Tips for Beginners
- Start with 1-10. Master the first ten Devanagari numerals and their spoken forms before moving to larger numbers. These are the building blocks for all counting.
- Learn the pattern for 11-19. Nepali numbers 11-19 have unique names (एघार, बाह्र, तेह्र...) that must be memorized individually - there is no simple formula like English.
- Notice the decades pattern. From 20 onwards, Nepali uses a predictable tens-unit combination: बीस (20), तीस (30), चालीस (40), पचास (50), etc.
- Compare with English numbers side-by-side. Since both are base-10 systems, understanding the Nepali word for each English number reinforces number sense. See English Numbers →
- Practice daily with counting games. Count objects around the house, read Nepali price tags, or use our interactive number cards to build speed and confidence.
