Why Learn English Numbers?

English numbers use the same base-10 system as Nepali, but with Latin digits (0-9) and unique English number words (one, two, three…). For Nepali-speaking children, learning English counting builds mathematical confidence in both languages.

This page covers numbers 1 to 100, showing both the digit and its English word name. Each card is designed as a memory aid - flip between the number and its word form to build instant recognition. Pair this with Nepali numbers to build numeracy, or explore Roman numerals for a deeper understanding of number systems.

Tips for Teaching English Numbers to Kids

  1. Start with 1-20 before moving to larger numbers. The teens (11-19) are irregular in English and need extra practice.
  2. Use the 'tens pattern' for 20-100. Once children learn twenty, thirty, forty… they can combine with units (twenty-one, twenty-two) to count to 100.
  3. Compare with Nepali numbers side by side. Seeing 'Five = ५ = पाँच' makes the connection between number systems concrete. Compare Nepali Numbers →
  4. Practice spelling tricky words: eight, twelve, forty, fifteen. These are the most commonly misspelled number words in English.
  5. Count real objects daily. Counting toys, steps, or chapatis at meal time turns abstract numbers into meaningful experiences.
